Spare Us This Year Also ことしもそのままにしておいてください。 Lk.13:6-9
英文サインズ・オブ・ザ・タイムズ2月号に、イタリアの探検家マルコ･ポーロが東の国で何年も過ごした後に祖国に戻って来たときの話について書かれていました。彼は友人たちに不思議な話をするのですが、彼の話すことがみんな全くのでたらめのように思えました。
There is an article in the Adventist magazine “Signs of the Times” about the story of Marco Polo, the Italian explorer, who returned home after many years in the East. He told such incredible tales that even his friends thought that he was lying or grossly exaggerating.
彼は銀や金がたくさんある町を旅行しました。そこで燃える黒い石を見ました（石炭）。炎の中に入れても燃えない衣を見ました（アスベスト）。彼はまた10本の足を持ち、人間を飲み込んでしまうような大きなあごを持った蛇について話をしました（ワニ）。人間の頭の形をしたナッツについても話をしました（椰子の実）。
He said that he had travelled to a city full of silver and gold. He had seen black stones that burned (coal). He had seen cloth that refused to catch fire even when thrown into flames (asbestos). He talked of huge serpents ten paces long with jaws wide enough to swallow a man (crocodiles). He told of nuts the size of a man’s head (coconuts).
人々はそんな話を聞いてもただ笑うだけでした。それから何年も過ぎて、マルコ･ポーロがまもなく亡くなろうとしたとき、信仰深い人が彼の枕元にやって来て、今まで話してきたことを撤回するように促しました。マルコ･ポーロは拒みました。
The people just laughed at such stories. Years later, when Marco Polo was dying, a devout man at his bedside urged him to recant all the tall tales he’d told. Marco Polo refused.
彼はこれまで話したことがみんな本当であって、実は、まだお話をしていないことが半分もあると応えました。
“It’s all true – every bit of it. In fact, the half has not been told,” he responded.
まだ見たこともない世界の美しさを言葉で表現するのはたいへん難しいです。ましてや天国についてはなおさらです。イエスはたとえ話を用いてたくさんの人たちに天国についてお話をしようとされました。今朝はルカによる福音書13:6-9に書かれているイエスのたとえ話について考えてみましょう。
It is difficult to express in words the beauty of the new earth, which we have not seen. And it is even more difficult to show the beauty of paradise. Jesus was challenged to talk about heavenly things to many people and used parables. This morning, let us think of a parable of Jesus in Luke 13:6-9.
ここには神の品性が描かれています。忍耐強い神の愛についてです。ある人がぶどう園にいちじくの木を植えました。ぶどう園に果物の木を植えることは、当時普通にしていることでした。ところが3年が経っても、その木に実がなりませんでした。そこでぶどう園の主人は園丁に言いました。「その木を切り倒しなさい。どうしてこの土地を無駄にしておくのか。」しかし、園丁は主人に向かってこう応えます。「それはできません。もしかしたら来年に実がなるかもしれないので、もう1年チャンスをください。木の周りに肥やしをやって世話をさせてください。もしそれでもだめでしたら、どうぞ切り倒してください。」たとえ話はここで終わっています。その1年後にいちじくの木に実がなったのかどうかは分かりません。
Here we read about God’s character; the love of His longsuffering. A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard. It was common to see fruit trees in vineyards in the times of Jesus in Palestine. Three years passed, but the tree didn’t bear any fruit. So the owner of the vineyard said to its gardener: “Cut it down; why should it be wasting the good ground?” But the gardener said; “No, sir, I cannot do that. The tree might bear fruit next year, so give it one more chance and leave it another year. I will give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we don’t get any figs next year, then you can cut it down.” The parable ends there. We are not told whether the tree bore fruit the next year or not.
ここで大切なことは、いちじくの木に特別な関心がもたれていることです。この木は土地を無駄にしています。実がならないのに、土から栄養を取るだけ取っています。しかし園丁はこの非生産的な木に憐れみをかけています。「もう1年待ってください」と主人に嘆願します。そして実がなるように木の周りに肥料を与えます。園丁はあらゆる心遣いを惜しみなく与えます。
What is important in here is that the fig tree is given special attention. The tree is wasting the ground. It is using up the nutrients of the soil without producing anything. But the gardener pities the unproductive tree and pleads the owner to wait one more year before cutting it down. He puts plenty of fertiliser around the tree. He gives it a greater care.
さて、皆さんはこのたとえ話をどう解釈されますか。ここに登場するぶどう園の主人は誰を表しているのでしょうか。直ぐに思いつくのは神です。そして園丁がイエスです。いちじくの木は罪人です。つまり、神が「罪人を滅ぼせ」と命令し、イエスは「待ってください」とお願いします。イエスは短気な父なる神の気持ちをなだめて、罪人に憐れみを示します。この解釈は正しいでしょうか。いいえ、正しくありません。父なる神と御子イエス・キリストとは三位一体の神であられますから、互いの意見が対立するはずがありません。コリント第二5:19をご覧ください。
How would you interpret this parable? Who do you think represents the owner of the vineyards in the parable? At first glance you might say God. And the gardener is Jesus, while the fig tree are sinners. That means God says, ”kill the sinners,” but Jesus says, “Wait.” He comes to the rescue and does His best to calm His impatient Father pleads to show a little mercy to the people. Is this interpretation right? No, it isn’t. God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ are God of the Trinity, and their opinions will never conflict each other. Look at 2Corinthians 5:19.
コリント第二5:19 すなわち、神はキリストにおいて世をご自分に和解させ、その罪過の責任をこれに負わせることをしないで、わたしたちに和解の福音をゆだねられたのである。
2Cor.5:19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
父なる神はこの人類と和解することにおいて御子キリストと完全に一致しています。両者の意見が衝突することがありません。
God is absolutely one with His Son Christ in reconciling the mankind to Himself. Both of their opinions cannot conflict each other.
ではぶどう園の主人と園丁の会話は何を表しているのでしょうか。神の内面の葛藤です。三位一体の神の正義と憐れみの葛藤を表しているのです。神は正義の立場から罪人を「切り倒せ」と命令し、憐れみの立場から「もう1年このままにしておいてください」と嘆願します。神はご自身の正義を貫きつつも、可能な限りを尽くして、罪人の命を守ろうとしておられるのです。
Then what does the conversation between the owner of the vineyards and its gardener illustrate? It illustrates the tension within God’s heart; the tension between the nature of justice and that of mercy. He says “Cut it down” in the nature of justice on one hand, and says “Leave it alone” in the nature of mercy on the other hand. Holding the nature of justice, He is doing everything possible to ensure the life of the sinners in mercy.
わたしたちは幸運にもこのような忍耐強い神によって今こうして生きています。本当ならばもう天の審判が終わっていてもおかしくはありません。しかし、一人でも多くの人たちが救いの恵みにあずかれるために、1年また1年と、神は心に葛藤を覚えながらも救いの時を延ばしておられるのです。わたしたちが今このように豊かな恵みを受けているのは、神の忍耐に他ならないのです。
So how lucky we are to live in the last period of probation by the grace of the Lord who is longsuffering for our salvation. It is not very strange that the heavenly judgment could have been over and Jesus could have returned now. But God, having the tension in His heart, is postponing the day of salvation year after year to save more people in His hands. It is because of His longsuffering that we can now receive His rich blessings.
ある神学生が教授にこんな質問をしました。「もし父なる神が本当にこの世を愛しておられるならば、どうして神ご自身がこの世に降りて来られなかったのですか。どうしてご自分が人類の身代わりになって死ななかったのですか。どうして御子イエスを代わりに送られたのですか。」この神学生は神が身代わりを地上に送ることで楽をしたのだと言いたかったのでしょうか。するともう一人の神学生がこう答えるのです。「もしあなたに心の底から愛している子供がいるなら、子供の苦しむ姿を見るよりは、自分が苦しんだほうがずっとましだと思いませんか。」
One theology student raised the following question to his teacher in a class; “If God loved the world so much, why didn’t He come to the world Himself? Why didn’t He die Himself instead? Why did He send His Son?” I wonder if the student thought that God made salvation easy by sending a Sacrifice to the earth instead of Himself. Then another student replied, “If you have a son whom you truly love, isn’t it much easier for you to suffer yourself than to watch your son suffer?”
確かにそうです。親が子供を本当に愛しているならば、子供の苦しむ姿を見るに耐えられないと思います。自分が代わりに苦しんであげたほうがずっとましだと思うのです。子供をお持ちの皆さんはそう思いませんか。自分の子供が「痛いよう。痛いよう」と叫んでいたら、自分が代わりに苦しんであげたいと思いませんか。それが親の本当の愛です。たとえ子供がどんなに大きくなっても、親の愛は変わりません。
Yes, it is true. If a parent really loves his children, he couldn’t bear to watch them suffer. It is much easier for him to suffer himself. Don’t you think so, those who have children? If your children are crying out in pain, wouldn’t you rather suffer yourselves in their stead? That is parental love. That never changes, even if the children have grown.
父なる神はご自身の御子を犠牲にすることで一番辛い選択をされました。決して楽な道を取ったのではありません。罪に対する正義と人類に対する憐れみを表すために、苦渋の選択をされたのです。この神の心の姿勢は終わりの時代においても変わりません。神はわたしたちをも心から愛してくださっています。一人でも多くの人たちを救うために、審判の終わりを伸ばしておられるのです。
God our Father took the most painful choice to sacrifice His Son. He never took the easy choice. He dared to choose the bitterest choice to show His justice against sin and His mercy towards mankind. And He keeps the same attitude in these last days. He loves us very much. He is doing everything possible to put off the end of His judgment in order to save people from their destruction.
サソリとカエルのたとえ話を読んだことがあります。サソリが川を渡ろうとしました。しかし泳ぐことができません。そこでカエルに自分を運んでもらうようにお願いしました。カエルは断りました。そしてサソリに言いました。「おまえが何をするかわたしには分かっている。わたしを刺して、殺してしまうのだろ。」しかしサソリは「わたしはそんなことを絶対にしない」と言い張ります。「わたしがもしもそんなことをしたら、あなたと一緒に溺れ死んでしまうじゃないか。」
I read the parable about the scorpion and a frog. The scorpion was trying to cross the river. But he could not swim. So he asked a frog to carry him across. The frog refused. He said, “I know what you’ll do. You’ll sting me and kill me.” But the scorpion insisted, “I wouldn’t do that. If I did that, then I would drown with you.”
それを聞いたカエルは納得して、二人で川を渡ることにしました。ちょうど川を半分渡ったところで、サソリがカエルを刺しました。二人は沈み始めました。カエルは悲しい声で言いました。「どうしてこんなことをしてくれたんだ。わたしたちはもうすぐ死んでしまうじゃないか。」そこでサソリは答えます。「すまなかった。どうしても抑えられなかったんだ。これがわたしのもって生まれた悪い性質なんだ。」
Hearing that the frog was convinced, and they started out to cross the river. Sure enough, halfway across the river the scorpion stung the frog. They headed for the bottom. So the frog said sadly, “Why did you do that? Now we are going to die.” And the scorpion answered, “I’m sorry, but I could not help it. It’s in my nature.”
わたしたちには罪という悪い性質があります。生まれつき自己中心的なところがあります。神に逆らって生きようとする悪い癖があります。それはサソリのようなものです。生きるという英語の言葉の”Live”を逆さまに書くと、悪”Evil”になります。つまり神に逆らった生き方をすれば、その人生は悪に染まります。わたしたちは罪人です。神のために何もしようとしなければ、霊的なものに無関心になります。しかし、神はそんなわたしたちを救ってくださいます。完全に生まれ変わらせてくださいます。救われるに遅すぎることはありません。自分の罪を悔い改め、神にすべてを明け渡すならば、今この場で救ってくださるのです。過去にどんなに大きな罪を犯したとしても、主イエスを個人的な救い主として信じるとき、その時点で救われるのです。ですから、このお恵みにもっと多くの人たちが預かれるように、神は恵みの期間を長くしておられるのです。
We have a sinful nature. We are born to be self-centred. We have a tendency to live against God. We, like the scorpion are born to do wrong. When you read the word “live” backwards, it becomes “evil.” So if you reverse your life, and live against God, your life becomes evil. We are sinners. If we don’t do anything for God, we may lose our interest in spiritual things. But God will save us. He will help us be born again. It is not too late to be saved. If we humbly repent our sins and trust in Jesus, He will save us right now. Whatever sins you may have committed in the past, but if you believe in the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour, you are saved right now. That is why God is adding more the period of probation to save more people.
ある牧師が自分の息子にこんな質問をしました。「息子よ、仮にわたしが千万長者として、お前に100万ドルを上げることにしよう。興味がある?」息子は「もちろんだよ」と答えます。父親は続けます。「しかし、それには2つの条件があるのだよ。まず1年間でその100万ドルをみんな使うことを約束できるか。」息子は「そんなこと簡単だよ」と言いました。そこで父親はもう1つの条件を言います。彼は「その1年が終わったら、ガス室に入って死ねるか」と尋ねました。息子は「それは無理だ」と応えました。父親は「どうしてだ」と聞き返します。息子曰く「ガス室のことばかりを考えてしまって、せっかくの1年間の楽しみが台無しになってしまうよ。」
A pastor came to his son and asked a question; “Son, Pretend that I’m a multimillionaire and I am going to give you a million dollars. Are you interested?” The son said, “Of, course.” The father continued by saying, “But there are two conditions. First of all, you have to agree to spend the whole million in one year.” The son said, “Well, that’s easy.” Then the father presented to him the second condition. “Do you agree to die in the gas chamber at the end of the year?” The son said, “No way!” The father said, “Why not?” The son said, “Because I’d be spending the whole year thinking about the gas chamber, and that would spoil all the year of fun”
もしわたしたちがいつどこでどんな死に方をするのかをはっきりと知っていたとしたら、1万ドルのお金をもらうよりも、自分の生き方を変えるほうを選びます。この世の中の人たちが好きなことをして生きているのは、自分の死について漠然とか知らないからです。もしもはっきりと知っていたとしたら、決して放蕩息子のような生き方をしないでしょう。神は人類の最期がどうなるのかをご存知です。それだけに一人でも多くの人たちを救おうとして、恩恵期間を延ばしておられるのです。
We would surely choose to change our life style rather than being given the million dollars, if we knew when, where, and how we would die. Many people don’t care about their life and do what they want because they only have a vague idea about their own death. If they knew it well, they would never live like the prodigal son. God knows everything about the end of the world. Because He knows it so well, He wants to add more the period of probation and to save more people from the destruction.
ある方がこんな質問をされました。「あなたは同じような人生を歩んでみたいと思いますか。喜びも悲しみも何ひとつ変わらない、まったく同じ人生を歩んでみたいですか。」同じ顔で生まれ、同じ親を持って、同じ家に住んで、同じものを着て、同じものを食べて、同じ学校に入学して、同じ学校を卒業して、同じ仕事について、同じ人と結婚して、同じ財産を手に入れて、同じように苦しんで、同じように楽しんで、同じような病気にかかって、同じように死んでいく、そんな人生を繰り返してみたいですか。若い時はそれでいいと思うかもしれません。しかし、年を重ねるごとに、人生というものが良く見えてくると、おそらく答えは「NO」という返事になると思います。同じ親をもって、同じ人と結婚したいと思ってみても、同じような苦労をしたくないと思うでしょう。この地上の人生は同じことを繰り返すだけ価値があるものではないのです。言い換えるならば、この地上では罪の姿のままで生きる喜びを永遠に味わうことができないのです。本当に生きる価値を見出せるのは、天の御国においてだけです。ですから、神は一人でも多くの人たちを天の御国に救おうとされるのです。
A person asked the following question; “Would you like to live the same life over again? Would you like to live the life which will never change at all; all the joys and all the sorrows?” Would you like to repeat the same life by being born with the same face, having the same parents, living in the same house, wearing the same clothes, eating the same food, entering the same school, graduating the same school, taking the same job, marrying the same spouse, gaining the same amount of money, having the same sorrows and the same joys, suffering the same diseases, and dying in the same way? You may say yes if you were young. But as you get older, and experience life, you would likely respond a lot quicker by saying, “No way!” You may want to have the same parents and want to marry the same person, but you may not want to have the same sorrows. Life on this earth is not worth repeating over and over again. In other words you cannot eternally taste the true joys on this sinful earth. You can only find the value of life only in heaven. That is why God is seeking more people to be saved in the heavenly kingdom.
イエスは約束されました。
Jesus promised us the following thing;
ヨハネ14:1 「あなたがたは、心を騒がせないがよい。神を信じ、またわたしを信じなさい。 14:2 わたしの父の家には、すまいがたくさんある。もしなかったならば、わたしはそう言っておいたであろう。あなたがたのために、場所を用意しに行くのだから。 14:3 そして、行って、場所の用意ができたならば、またきて、あなたがたをわたしのところに迎えよう。わたしのおる所にあなたがたもおらせるためである。
John14:1 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 14:2 "In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 14:3 "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
黙示録21:1 わたしはまた、新しい天と新しい地とを見た。先の天と地とは消え去り、海もなくなってしまった。
Revelation21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.
この世のすべてのものがまったく新しくされて、古いものが完全に消されるのです。そしてその全く新しくされたところがわたしたちの永遠の住まいとなるのです。そのようなときを神はわたしたちのために用意してくださっています。感謝しつつ、その日を待ち望もうではありませんか。
How good it is for us to renew all things and let old things pass in the future. And there will be mansions for us for all eternity. God has prepared for us such a wonderful time. Let us praise the Lord and look forward to the day to be fulfilled.
