―　悔い改めた盗人を救ったイエス

―　Jesus Saved the Penitent Thief

さて今日はイエスが亡くなられる前に、盗人と会話を交わした言葉から、主の御心について考えて見ましょう。

Let’s consider what the Lord intended from his conversation with the thief before His death.

ルカ23:42 そして言った、「イエスよ、あなたが御国の権威をもっておいでになる時には、わたしを思い出してください」。

23:43 イエスは言われた、「よく言っておくが、あなたはきょう、わたしと一緒にパラダイスにいるであろう」。

Luke23:42 Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom."

23:43 And Jesus said to him (the thief), "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."

ある人々はこのイエスのお言葉から人が死んだら直ぐに天国に行くと信じています。キリストの再臨を待たずに、天国に行くのです。しかしこの考えはテサロニケ第一4章に書かれていますキリストの再臨と義人の復活の教えと相反しています。ではどこに問題があるのでしょうか。イエスが昇天された時と悔い改めた盗人が死んだ時の2つの点から考えてみたいと思います。

Some people assume from Jesus’ words that they would go to heaven immediately after death.  Going straight to heaven without waiting for the second coming of Christ.  This thought is contrary to what 1 Thessalonians 4 says about the second coming of Christ and the resurrection of the righteous.  What is the main problem?  I would like to consider two points: time when Jesus went back to heaven and the time when the repentent thief died. 

43節でイエスは何を語ろうとしておられたのでしょうか。まず2つの点について考えてみましょう。1つはイエスの死と昇天について、もう1つは悔い改めた盗人の死についてです。

What did Jesus really want to say to the thief in verse 43?  Let us think of the two things; the death of Jesus and His ascension, and the death of the repentent thief. 

まずイエスの死についてですが、確かにイエスは安息日の始まる前の金曜日の夕方に十字架上で亡くなられました。聖書はそのことをはっきりと述べています（ルカ23:46）。しかし、息を引き取られて直ぐにパラダイスに戻られたとは書かれていません。ヨハネ20:17をお開きください。イエスは復活された後にマリヤに再会します。彼女は喜びのあまりにイエスの身体に触れようとしました。もう二度とイエスを失いたくなかったのです。するとイエスは彼女にこう言われました。

Regarding the death of Jesus, He indeed died on the cross in the evening of Friday before the Sabbath day.  The Bible says so clearly (Luke 23:46).  But it does not say that Jesus went to heaven right after His death.  Let’s look at John 20:17.  Jesus saw Mary again after His resurrection.  She was so happy that she nearly touched Him.  She did not want to lose Him again.   Then He said her as follows. 

ヨハネ20:17 イエスは彼女に言われた、「わたしにさわってはいけない。わたしは、まだ父のみもとに上っていないのだから。ただ、わたしの兄弟たちの所に行って、『わたしは、わたしの父またあなたがたの父であって、わたしの神またあなたがたの神であられるかたのみもとへ上って行く』と、彼らに伝えなさい」。

John20:17 Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.' "

イエスは「まだ父のみもとに上っていない。だからわたしにさわってはいけない」とはっきり言われました。このときは、十字架上で亡くなられてから既に3日が経っていましたが、まだ神のもとにお帰りになっていませんでした。お身体は誰も触れることが許されていませんでした。

Jesus clearly said, “I have not yet ascended to the Father.  Don’t cling to me.”  Three days had already passed since He died on the cross.  But He had not yet gone back to His Father.  His body was not allowed to be touched. 

それから8日が経ってから（ヨハネ20:26）、イエスは弟子たちの前に現れます。そしてトマスに「あなたの指でわたしの脇腹にさわってみなさい」と言われました。このときにはイエスの身体に触れることができました。ですから、おそらくイエスが一時的に天に戻られたのは、この8日の期間であったのでしょう。

Eight days later Jesus appeared before the disciples.  And He said to Thomas, “Put your hand into the wound in my side and touch it.”  This time Jesus contact with Jesus was possible.  Therefore, it was during these eight day period when Jesus temporarily reutrned to heaven. 

余談になりますが、イエスが一時的に天に戻られた理由について、聖書は何も語っていません。ただエレン･ホワイトはこれについて次のように述べています。

With regards to this, I may add that the Bible doesn’t mention anything about why Jesus had to temporarily return to heaven.  But Ellen White says as follows:

「イエスは、ご自分の犠牲が天父によって受け入れられたとの確証が与えられるまではご自分の民から尊敬を受けようとされなかった。イエスは天の宮廷へのぼり、その血によってすべての人が永遠の生命を得られるように、イエスが人類のために払われたあがないは充分であったとの保証を神ご自身から聞かれた。」

『各時代の希望』下巻324ページ

Jesus refused to receive the homage of His people until He had the assurance that His sacrifice was accepted by the Father.  He ascended to the heavenly courts, and from God Himself heard the assurance that His atonement for the sins of men had been ample, that through His blood all might gain eternal life.

The Desire of Ages, p.790

イエスが復活後に天にお帰りになったのは、父なる神にお会いになるためでした。お会いになって、十字架の犠牲が確かに人類の救いのために十分であったことを父なる神から直接聞くためでした。それを聞くまでは、人々の前に公に現れることを拒まれました。とにかくイエスがパラダイスに戻られたのは、復活された後のことでした。

Jesus went home to heaven after resurrection to meet His Father.  He went there to hear from the Father that His sacrifice on the cross was ample enough to save people in this world.  Without hearing the assurance from the Father He refused to appear publicly.  So it was only after He was raised from the dead that Jesus went back to paradise. 

ではイエスと一緒に十字架にかけられた盗人はいつごろ殺されたのでしょうか。イエスが亡くなられたときには、彼らはまだ生きていました。ヨハネ19:32-33をご覧ください。兵卒たちは盗人らの足を折ったが、イエスは既に死んでいたので骨は折らなかったと書いてあります。ですから、この時点で盗人らはまだ生きていたことになります。時は、ルカ23:44によれば、金曜日の午後3時ごろでした。

Then what about the thieves that were crucified on the cross with Jesus?  When were they killed?  When Jesus died, they were still alive.  Look at John 19:32-33.  It says that the soldiers broke the thieves’ legs, but they did not break those of Jesus’ because He was already dead.  It is very clear that the thieves were very much alive at this time.  According to Luke 23:44, it was on Friday about three o’clock in the afternoon. 

それではいつごろに彼らは死んだのでしょうか。安息日が始まる前でしょうか。足を折っただけでは、そう簡単には死ねません。足の支えを失って、身体の重みが手のほうに集中したために、本人たちは相当の苦しみを味わったでしょう。しかしそれだけでは、安息日が始まるまでの2,3時間のうちに死ぬことはなかったはずです。もちろん、槍で脇腹を刺せば即死でしょうが、そのようなことは聖書に記録されていません。

So when did the thieves die?  Was it before the Sabbath day?  They could not have easily died even if they had their legs broken.  Of course, they might have suffered a lot, because their legs were no longer able to support their bodies and all of their weight were on their nailed hands.  But they could not have died within two or three hours before the Sabbath day.  If they had their sides pierced with a spear, they would have immediately died, but this is not recorded in the Bible. 

では安息日に死んだのでしょうか。ヨハネ19:31をご覧ください。ユダヤ人たちは安息日に死体を十字架上に置くことを嫌っていました。ですから、そのようなことはありえませんでした。

Then did the thieves die during the Sabbath day?  Look at John 19:31.  The Jewish people did not want the dead bodies hanging on the cross on the Sabbath.  So this could not work. 

一番考えられるのは、安息日が終った後です。まず足が折られて、どこにも逃げられないようになります。そして十字架からおろされて、安息日のあいだどこかに休みます。安息日が終ると、再び十字架にかけられて、苦しみながら死んでいきます。おそらくこのような方法で、盗人らは死んでいったのではないかと思います。彼らがイエスとおなじような時刻に死んだとは、どうしても考えられません。

The thieves possibly died after the Sabbath day.  First, they had their legs broken so that they could not run away.  Then they were taken off the cross and rested somewhere on the Sabbath.  After the Sabbath they were hung on the cross again and died with suffering.  I think this was how they died.  It is very difficult to accept that they died on the same day when Jesus died. 

このように、イエスがパラダイスに一時的に戻られたのは、復活の後ですし、悔い改めた盗人が死んだのは、安息日の後ですから、イエスが言われた「あなたはきょう、わたしと一緒にパラダイスにいるであろう」というお言葉には、明らかに矛盾があります。しかしこの矛盾は、句読点の場所をずらすことで、簡単に解消されます。つまり、原文の句読点を「きょう」の前でなく、「きょう」の後に置くのです。これは文法的に問題がありません。と言うのも、新約聖書の写本にはもともと丸や点がないからです。それは後から神学者が翻訳の段階で付け足されたものです。

Thus, Jesus went back home to Paradise after His resurrection, and the repentent thief died after the Sabbath. So what Jesus said on the cross, “Today you will be with Me in Paradise” would be contradictive.  But this apparent contradiction can be cleared up easily if the punctuation is changed.  This means they place a comma not before but after the word “today” in the original Greek verse.  There is no grammatical problem, because the New Testament Greek manuscripts do not use any punctuations.  It was added later by uninspired theologians when they translated the Bible. 

そこで正しい訳は次のようになります。

Here is the correct translation. 

ルカ23:43（私訳） イエスは言われた、「きょう、よく言っておくが、あなたはわたしと一緒にパラダイスにいるであろう」。

Luke23:43(my own translation) And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you today (comma), you will be with Me in Paradise."

それでは悔い改めた盗人の気持ちとイエスのお気持ちを考えて見たいと思います。まず42節をご覧ください。盗人は何をイエスに求めたのでしょうか。彼はこう言いました。「イエスよ、あなたが御国においでになる時には、わたしを思い出してください」。彼が求めたのは、十字架の苦しみから解放されることではなく、「きょう」のうちにパラダイスに行くことでもありませんでした。41節に書かれているとおり、彼は自分が犯した罪に対して死ぬのは当然だと考えていました。彼が本当に求めていたのは、イエスにパラダイスで自分のことを覚えてもらうことでした。

Now let us think of the thoughts of the repentant thief and those of Jesus.  First, look at verse 42.  What did he want from Jesus?  He said, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”  He sought neither to be released from suffering on the cross nor to go to Paradise on that day.  As it is written in verse 41, he was thinking that he deserved to die for his crime. What he really expected from Jesus was that He should remember the poor thief in Paradise. 

エレン･ホワイトはこの盗人の心境を次のように述べています。

Ellen White describes the feelings of the thief as follows.

もう問題はない。疑いもなければ、罪のとがめもない。有罪を宣告された時、この泥棒は絶望し、自暴自棄になった。しかし今、不思議な、優しい思いが湧き上がってくる。彼は、イエスが病人を癒し、罪が赦されたことなど、イエスについて聞いたことをみな心に思い起こす。

There is no question now.  There are no doubts, no reproaches.  When condemned for his crime, the thief had become hopeless and despairing; but strange, tender thoughts now spring up.  He calls to mind all he has heard of Jesus, how He has healed the sick and pardoned sin. 

彼は、イエスを信じて泣きながらついてきた人たちの言葉を聞いた。彼は、救い主の頭上の罪状書きを見て読んだ。彼は、通りかかりの人たちが、ある者は悲しみに震える唇で、ある者はやじと嘲りをもってその罪状書きを読むのを聞いた。聖霊は彼の心を照らし、少しずつ証拠の鎖がつながる。打たれ、嘲られ、十字架にかけられているイエスのうちに、彼は、世の罪を取り除く神の小羊を見る。死に掛けている無力な魂が、瀕死の救い主に身を任せると、彼の声には苦悩の中に望みが混じる。「イエスよ、あなたが御国の権威をもっておいでになる時には、わたしを思い出してください」と、彼は叫ぶ。                                                                        『人類のあけぼの』下巻270ページ

He has heard the passers-by repeat it, some with grieved, quivering lips, others with jesting and mockery.  The Holy Spirit illuminates his mind, and little by little the chain of evidence is joined together.  In Jesus, bruised, mocked, and hanging upon the cross, he sees the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sins of the world.  Hope is mingled with anguish in his voice as the helpless, dying soul casts himself upon a dying Saviour.  “Lord, remember me,” he cries, “when Thou comest into Thy kingdom.”                                              The Desire of Ages, p750

皆さんは誰かに覚えてもらってうれしかった経験はないでしょうか。きっとおありだと思います。わたしもあります。わたしが牧師になってから、何かとずっと心にかけてくださった先輩の牧師がおられました。その先生は、どうしたことか、わたしが一番助けてほしいと思ったときに、声をかけてくださって、新しい道を用意してくださいました。そういった経験が牧会生活で3度ありました。残念ながら、その方は亡くなられましたが、わたしのことをよく覚えていただいたことを本当に感謝しています。

Have you ever been very happy when someone remembered you?  I am sure that you have.  So have I.  There was a senior pastor that had always remembered me since I became a pastor.  When I needed a great deal of help, for some reason he came to me, talked with me, and helped me to go to the field.  I had this experience three times in my ministerial life.  I am very sorry that he passed away, but I am always thankful to him who always remembered me. 

あの悔い改めた盗人は、天の御国でイエスに覚えていただくだけで充分だと思っていました。それ以上のことを何も求めていませんでした。それはイエスがどれほどすばらしいお方であるのかを、人から聞いたか、あるいは自分の目で見たからではないかと思います。イエスを真の救い主として心から信じていたからではないかと思います。

That repentant thief thought that it was just enough for Jesus to remember him in Paradise.  He did not ask for anything else.  It was because he knew how wonderful Jesus was, from what he had heard and what he had seen.  It was because he believed Jesus as his personal Saviour from the bottom of his heart. 

ではイエスは十字架上でどんなお気持ちでいらっしゃったのでしょうか。イエスはこの盗人に対して非常に優しい言葉をかけられました。「わたしはきょうあなたに告げる、あなたはわたしと一緒にパラダイスにいるであろう。」心と身体が最も苦しいときに、この盗人のことを思いやりました。そしてパラダイスで再会することを約束されました。

Then what about the feelings of Jesus?  He spoke to the thief very kindly, "Assuredly, I say to you today, you will be with Me in Paradise."  Suffering the most intense agony of mind and body, he showed mercy on this thief.  And He promised that he would see the thief again. 

「あなたはわたしと一緒にパラダイスにいるであろう。」このイエスの言葉はわたしたちに対する約束でもあります。わたしたちの故郷は天国です。そこにわたしたちの家が建てられます。そこに新しい神の家族が出来上がるのです。わたしたちはイエスとともに永遠に暮らすのです。そのようなときが来ることを、イエスは待っておられるのです。

"You will be with Me in Paradise."  These words of Jesus is a promise to us.  Heaven is our homeland.  Our homes will be built there.  There will be a new family of God.  We will live with Jesus forever.  He is waiting for that time. 

カナダに移住してから、はじめて日本に帰ったときのことをときどき思い出します。おいしい日本食を食べ、懐かしい人たちにお会いして、とても楽しかったです。どこへ行っても日本語が通じることを本当に感謝しました。

I remember a time when I went back to Japan by myself after our family immigrated to Canada.  I ate a delicious Japanese food, met some good friends, and had a very good time.  I was so happy because wherever I went, I could speak Japanese. 

でもやっぱり家族のいるカナダが一番だと思いました。どんなに言葉が不自由でも、やはり家族のいるところが一番落ち着きますし、そこがわたしの故郷になります。

But I said to myself, “Canada is the best because my family is there.”  Although I have to speak English and feel inconvenient, I am still comfortable because my family is there.  My home and homeland is wherever my family is.   

わたしたちの市民権は天にあります。そこでイエスはわたしたちと共に暮らすことを待っておられます。

We are citizens of heaven.  Jesus is waiting for us up there to live with Him. 

「あなたはわたしと一緒にパラダイスにいるであろう。」このイエスのお言葉を覚えて、新しい週もイエスとお会いする準備をいたしましょう。アーメン。

"You will be with Me in Paradise."  Let us remember these words of Jesus and prepare our hearts this coming new week to meet Him. Amen.
