御言葉を聞いたなら

If You Hear the Word of God

2001年の9月に16歳の男の子が母親によって散弾銃で撃たれてしまいました。場所はフロリダのNorth Fort Myersです。彼がNew Wine Ministries Churchの外に立っているときです。母親は近くから息子に狙いを定めて銃を発射しました。ところがその少年は助かりました。母親の狙いが狂ったのでしょうか。いいえ。そうではありませんでした。弾は確かに彼に当たりました。しかしちょうど彼がカバーで覆われた分厚い聖書を手に持っていたので、聖書が弾の衝撃を吸収してくれたのです。そのおかげで腕にほんのかすり傷を受けただけで済みました。聖書は彼の命を救ってくれたのです。
 

On September, 2001 a sixteen-year-old boy was shot by his mother with a shotgun.  It was in North Fort Myers, Florida.  As he was standing outside New Wine Ministries Church, the mother fired the shotgun at point blank range.  But he was saved.  So did she miss the mark?  No, she didn't. She hit the mark..  But because he had the thick Bible in a zippered cover, the Bible took the full force of the shotgun’s impact.  He had only minor scratches on his arm.  The Bible saved his life. 

聖書は確かにわたしたちのいのちを救ってくれます。この少年が経験したようなドラマチックな方法でないにしても、聖書は確かに神について教え、神に喜ばれる生き方とは何なのかをはっきりと示し、わたしたちを永遠の救いへと導いてくれます。
 

The Bible is indeed a lifesaver.  Though we may not experience anything as dramatic like the one the young man had, the Bible teaches us about God, shows us how to lead life pleasing to God, and leads us to eternal salvation. 

ではこの聖書をどのような心構えで読んだらいいのでしょうか。ルカ8:4-8のたとえ話には、聖書の教えを学ぶに当たって注意しなければならない3つの要素が書かれています。
 

So what kind of attitude should we have when we read the Bible?  Jesus’ parable in Luke 8:4-8 tells three things to consider when learning the teaching of the Bible. 

ルカ8:4 さて、大ぜいの群衆が集まり、その上、町々からの人たちがイエスのところに、ぞくぞくと押し寄せてきたので、一つの譬で話をされた、

8:5 「種まきが種をまきに出て行った。まいているうちに、ある種は道ばたに落ち、踏みつけられ、そして空の鳥に食べられてしまった。
 

Luke8:4 And when a great multitude had gathered, and they had come to Him from every city, He spoke by a parable:

8:5 "A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.

第1の注意点は固い心です。自分から変わろうとしない心です。このたとえで、種まきはイエスご自身を表し、種は聖書の御言葉を表し、土は御言葉を受け入れる心の状態を表しています。最初の種は道ばたに落ちました。その種は人の足で踏みつけられて鳥に食べられてしまいました。道ばたは人が歩くところですから、土が固いです。種はそこに根を張りません。人間の心も道ばたのように固くなってしまえば、神の御言葉を聞いても素直に信じることができなくなるのです。自分のほうから変わろうとする柔軟な心があってこそ、聖書の言葉は心に根を張ります。しかしもしそのような心がなければ、サタンが空の鳥のようにやって来て、その御言葉の種を食べられてしまいます。
 

The first point is stubbornness; a heart which is resistant to change.  In the parable the farmer planting the seed represents Jesus, the seed the Word of God, and the soil your heart  which receives His Words.  The first seed fell on the wayside.  It was stepped on, and was eaten by the birds.  The wayside is a place where people walk, and it is hard.  Seeds cannot take root there.  If your heart is like the hard-beaten path, you won't believe the Word of God.  But if you have the willingness to change yourselves, the Word will remain and take root.  Otherwise Satan will come along like the birds or the air and eat those Words meant for you.

イエスはどんな「空の鳥」を心に描いておられたのかわたしは分かりませんが、鳥は通常いろいろなものを食べます。時々風船を空に飛ばす人がいますが、あの風船が破裂して地に落ちて、その破れたゴムを鳥が食べて死んだというニュースを聞いたことがあります。鶏は鶏糞も食べてしまうと聞いたことがあります。鶏のマンションが3階建てとすると、最上階の鶏が糞を2階に落とし、それを2階の鶏が食べて、更に1階に落とします。そして1階の鶏は更にその落ちた糞を食べるのです。ですからわたしの偏見かもしれませんが、鳥は一般的に貪欲に思えます。サタンは鳥にたとえられています。わたしたちが神の御言葉を耳にしても、サタンはその御言葉を奪ってしまって、わたしたちが何回も御言葉を聞いても頭に残らないようにするのです。
 

I don't know what kind of the birds Jesus thought about, but I know the birds eat a variety of things.  I have heard on the news that people have released balloons into the air and when they exploded, some birds ate the pieces of the rubber.  I have been told  that chickens eat their own waste.  Suppose chickens living on the top floor of a three level chicken coup, dropped their waste to the second level, the chickens on that level would eat the waste coming from above and drop their own ones to the first level.  The chickens on the first level in turn would eat the waste from above.  I have my own opinions about birds, but I think they are generally greedy.  Satan is comparable to these birds.  Although we hear the words of God, he comes along and robs the words of God which were meant for us and so we are unable to retain His Words no matter how many times we hear them.

皆さんは聖書を読むとき、神に変えていただきたいと願っておられますか。それとも変えてもらわなくてもいいと思っておられますか。神に変えていただきたいと願うならば、神は必ずそれをかなえてくださいます。その受け入れようとする心があって、初めて聖書の教えが心に残るのです。しかし、心が道ばたのように硬ければ、心に残ることがありません。

When you read the Bible, do you ask God to change you?  Or do you resist letting Him change you?  If you really want Him to change you, He will do it.  If you have a receptive heart to His words, these words will remain.  But if your heart is hard like the wayside, then they will not remain inside you. 

聖書を読むに当たっての第2の注意点は感情的な信仰です。6節をご覧ください。

The second point to consider in reading the Bible is emotional religion.  Look at verse 6. 

ルカ8:6 ほかの種は岩の上に落ち、生えはしたが水気がないので枯れてしまった。

Luke8:6 "Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture.

もう一つの種は岩の上に落ちました。岩の上にはちょっとした土があります。そこに種が落ちて、雨の後に緑の芽が少し出ました。しかし土が少ししかないので根が深く張らず、一日か二日ほどで枯れてしまいました。このような岩の土は、今日は喜んで御言葉を信じても明日になると信じなくなるような心を表しています。感情的に受け入れて、熱が冷めると、元の生活に戻ります。或いは試練がやって来ると、永遠の世界の実在に目を留められなくなって、信仰を捨ててしまうのです。このような人は衝動的に御言葉を受け入れただけです。

Other seeds fell among the rocks.  There was a bit of dust among them.  And there the seed dropped and tiny green shoots sprang up after a rain.  But because there was not enough soil for them to take root, they lasted for a day or two days.  This rocky soil represents people who happily accept God’s word today but apostatise the following day.  They respond only with their emotions, but when the enthusiasm cools down, things are right back where they started.  Or when they face temptation, they cannot believe the reality of eternal kingdom, and fall away from God.  These people just accept God’s word on impulse. 

エレン･ホワイトはこのような人を「自己とキリストの両方に仕えようする」（『キリストの実物教訓』26ページ）人だと言っています。バージニア州に住む10代の女の子が家の裏で二つの頭をもった亀を発見してびっくりしました。彼女がそのかわいそうな生き物を捕まえて、観察をすることにしました。彼女が餌をあげると、面白いことにこの二つの頭が食べ物の引っ張り合いを始めました。お互いに仲良く食べあうことができないのです。科学者の説明によると、二つの頭を持った奇形はどの動物にも起こりうることですが、寿命は極めて短いようです。その理由はそれぞれの頭が別々に行動して自分の身体をコントロールしようとするからです。これが混乱とフラストレーションを起こします。食べたいものが十分食べられなくなります。決断を下すことも難しくなります。必然的に長く生きられなくなるのです。

Ellen White calls them those who “who serve both self and Christ” (Christ’s Object Lessons, p50).  A teenager in Virginia was shocked to find a two headed turtle behind her home.  She caught the poor creature and decided to keep it under observation.  Then she saw the turtle’s two heads both tugging and fighting over a piece of food which she gave them.  According to scientists, two-heads can occur in all animals, but their lifespan is very short.  The reason is that each head tends to work independently of the other, controlling its own side of the body.  This creates confusion and frustration.  They cannot eat enough.  They have a hard time coming to any consensus.  In the end they cannot live longer than they are expected. 

わたしたちが仕えるのはイエスというお方だけです。自己とイエスの二つの頭が支配しようとしてはいけません。イエスが唯一の頭となって、わたしたちのすべてをコントロールしていただくのです。そのためにも御言葉が心の中にしっかりと根を張らないといけません。毎日聖書を読み、毎日神から教えを受け、毎日神の前に悔い改めます。毎日何らかのかたちで神のために奉仕をするのです。

We only serve Jesus.  We should not allow the heads of self and Jesus to control us.  He is the only head which controls us.  So it is vitally important that the word of God should take root deeply in our heart. We need read the Bible everyday, receive a message from God everyday, and repent before Him everyday.  And we need to do service for Him everyday. 

聖書を読むに当たっての第3の注意点は、生活の心づかいや富や快楽です。

The third point in reading the Bible is the cares, riches and pleasures of this life. 

ルカ8:7 ほかの種は、いばらの間に落ちたので、いばらも一緒に茂ってきて、それをふさいでしまった。

Luke8:7 "And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it.

他の種は茨の間に落ちました。茨は種の成長を妨げました。イエスはこの茨を「生活の心づかいや富や快楽」（ルカ8:14)と解説しています。確かにいろいろと心配を始めるとなかなか聖書の学びが手につかないことがあります。富や快楽にふければ、聖書の学びがおろそかになります。ちょうど茨がどこにでも生えているように、生活の心づかいや富や快楽はわたしたちの身近な問題です。こういったものが霊的な祝福を妨げてしまうのです。

Still other seed fell among the thorns.  They chocked out and stopped the good seed from growing.  Jesus interpreted the thorns as the cares and riches and pleasures of this life in Luke 8:14. 

ひとりの裕福なペルシャ人の農夫がインドに住んでいました。彼の名前はAli Hafedです。彼は広くて美しい農場を持っていました。そこには果樹園や小川や肥えた野原もありました。彼は家族にも恵まれ、本当に幸せな日々を送っていました。ある日のこと、一人の仏教のお坊さんがやって来て、ダイアモンドを発見して金持ちになった他の農夫の話を始めました。彼はその話を聞いてから、ダイアモンドを見つけ出すことばかり考えるようになりました。ついに彼は自分の農場を売って、家族を親戚に預けて、ダイアモンドを探しに出かけました。アフリカ大陸やヨーロッパ大陸を渡りました。しかし、どこへ行っても宝石は見つかりません。とうとう無一文になりました。彼は意気消沈してスペインのバルセロナ湾に身投げをして自殺しました。

There was a prosperous Persian farmer living in India.  His name was Ali Hafed.  He owned a large and beautiful land.  It was decorated with orchards, streams, and fertile fields.  He was satisfied with his family and lived a happy life.  But one day a Buddhist monk came to visit and told Ali tales of other farmers who had found diamonds and become very rich.  After hearing this, he was obsessed with thoughts of finding diamonds.  Eventually he sold his land, left his family with relatives, and began searching for diamonds.  He wandered around the African continent and then moved Europe.  But he could not find any diamonds.  Finally he was worn out and became penniless.  He lost hope and threw himself into the Bay of Barcelona in Spain and drowned. 

富と快楽を求めた彼の人生は惨めな最期で終わりました。裕福になることは何の罪でもありません。大事なことは何を一番大切にするかです。イエスは言われました。「まず神の国と神の義とを求めなさい。」そうするときに必要なものが後からすべて与えられるのです。

His life, in search of riches and pleasures ended in a miserable way.  It is not sin to become rich.   But it is vital to know what is the most important in your life. Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.”  Then He will give you everything that you need. 

余談ではありますが、Aliが売ってしまった農場には実はたくさんのダイアモンドが埋もれていました。そしてその場所が後に有名なダイアモンドの鉱山として世界に知れ渡ることになりました。

In this connection I may add that there were diamonds in the land which Ali had previously owned.  Later it turned out to be the very famous diamond mine in the world. 

さてイエスはこれまで聖書を読むための3つの注意点を述べましたが、最後にもうひとつのことを教えます。

So far we have learnt from Jesus the three important points in studying the Bible, and He concluded the parable with one more thing to teach. 

ルカ8:8 ところが、ほかの種は良い地に落ちたので、はえ育って百倍もの実を結んだ」。こう語られたのち、声をあげて「聞く耳のある者は聞くがよい」と言われた。

ルカ8:8 "But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold." When He had said these things He cried, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"

わたしたちの心が良い状態であるとき、御言葉は素直に心の中に入って、それが豊かな実を結ぶようになります。わたしは日本にいたころに家の庭で春から夏にかけて野菜を作っていました。土を耕して石ころを取ります。それから肥料を入れます。肥料は鶏糞でした。それを2ヶ月ほど寝かせます。それからニガウリの種を植えます。1ヶ月ほどすると、芽が出てきます。それがどんどんと成長していって、畑はジャングルのようになってたくさんのニガウリを作ることができました。わずか1個の種で少なくとも30個から40個ほどのニガウリを収穫できました。土が良いとたくさんの収穫が得られます。わたしたちの心も豊かであれば、御言葉が良い結果を実らせるのです。

When our heart is good, the word of God remains there and yields a crop.  When I was in Japan, I grew vegetables in my house from spring to summer.  I plowed the soil and removed pebbles.  Then I put fertilisers in there.  They were fowl droppings.  I left the soil about two months.  After that I planted the seed of bitter melon.  After one month the buds sprang out.  They grew day by day, and eventually it resembled a jungle full of bitter melons.  A single seed would produce 30 or 40 bitter melons.  The good soil produces good crop.  If our heart is good, the word of God produce good results. 

さて、皆さんは今どのような心をもっておられますか。道ばたの心でしょうか。それとも岩の心、それとも茨の心や、それとも良い地の心でしょうか。このたとえ話は誰がどの心をもっているというよりも、皆それぞれがこの4種類の土の心をもっていることを教えているように思います。皆さんのうちには道ばたの心や、岩の心や、茨の心や、良い地の心があるのです。もし誰かから「あなたには本当に悪いところがある」とまともに言われたら、皆さんは道ばたのような心になるかもしれません。或いは、何か大きな試練が襲ってきた時に、皆さんの心が岩の上のわずかな土のようになって、御言葉の種が中に深く根を張らなくなるかもしれません。或いは、いろいろな心配事が起こって、御言葉の学びに集中できなくなるときが来るかもしれません。でもあるときには、とても心が冷静で御言葉がすうっと心に入ってくるでしょう。わたしたちにはこのようなミックスした反応を表してしまうのです。

Now what kind of heart do you have; the heart of the wayside, or the rocky soil, or the thorny ground, or the good soil?  This parable does not seem to say who has which soil, but rather it says every heart contains all four kinds of soil.  Your heart has the wayside, the rocky soil, the thorny ground, and the good soil.  If someone comes to you and says to you, “You have a really bad temper,” then your heart may be like the wayside.  Or if you face big temptations, your heart may be like the rocky soil, and word of God may not take root.  Or when you worry excessively, you may not feel like studying the Bible.  But when you feel good and relaxed; the word of God enters right into your heart.  We all have mixed responses. 

大事なのはわたしたちの農夫であるイエス･キリストに心を耕していただくことです。種を蒔く方に心の土も耕していただくのです。石を取り、茨を取り、肥やしを入れてもらってよい土に変えていただくのです。わたしたちはその方にいつもゆだねなくてはなりません。

So it is important to let our Farmer, Jesus Christ plow our heart.  The true Sower can cultivate our heart.  He will remove all the rocks, the weeds, and put fertilisers into the soil and make it good.  We need to surrender ourselves to Him. 

日本が1945年に戦争に敗れてから、26年経ってからグアム島のジャングルで一人の旧日本軍兵士が発見されて保護されました。その人の名前は、日本人の方たちはよくご存知の横井庄一さんです。彼はまだ戦争が終わっていないと信じて、ずっと「敵」に投降することを拒んでいました。そして26年間も、ジャングルでねずみやトカゲやカエルなどを食べて、殺されることを怯えながら潜伏生活を送っていました。投降していれば、早くそのような生活から解放されたでしょう。

26 years after the surrender of Japan in 1945, one Japanese soldier was captured in the remote jungles of Guam.  His name is Mr Shoichi Yokoi, whom many Japanese people know about.  He believed that the war wasn’t over, and refused to surrender.  And he was hiding in the jungles, eating rats, lizards, and frogs, with fear of being killed.  If he had surrendered himself earlier, he would have been freed from a difficult life. 

わたしたちはイエスに毎日降伏して、毎日イエスに変えていただかなくてはなりません。イエスはそれをなしてくださいます。わたしたちの心を良い土のように造り替えてくださいます。そのためにも是非イエスに身をおゆだねしてください。

We need to surrender ourselves to Jesus everyday, and ask Him to change ourselves.  He will do it for us.  He will change our heart like the good soil.  But to in order to let Him do it, we need to surrender all to Jesus. 

15:5 わたしはぶどうの木、あなたがたはその枝である。もし人がわたしにつながっており、またわたしがその人とつながっておれば、その人は実を豊かに結ぶようになる。わたしから離れては、あなたがたは何一つできないからである。

15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

今日も明日もイエスにつながりましょう。イエスにゆだねましょう。わたしたちが豊かな実を結ぶようにイエスは必ず助けてくださいます。

Let us abide in Jesus today and tomorrow.  Let us surrender all to Jesus.  He will surely help us bear much fruit.
