I do not Want You to Be Ignorant

1858年にスコットランドのエディンバラに住むJock Greyという名の人が教会の墓地に埋められました。彼の愛犬はその主人の埋葬された場所をじっと見ていました。そしてその日から14年間、自分が死ぬまで、ご主人の墓の上にずっと住むようになりました。雨の日も彼はその場所から離れようとしません。但し、1日のほんの1時間だけその場所を離れて、2人の友達のところへ散歩に行きます。1人はレストランの主人で、その人から餌をもらいます。もう1人は犬のために小さな家を作ってあげた墓堀人です。しかしそれ以外はずっと自分の主人の墓のそばにいました。主人が墓から出てくるのを待っていたのでしょう。もう一度会いたいと思っていたのでしょう。

In 1858 a man called Jock Grey living in Edinburgh, Scotland, was buried in the church cemetery.  His little dog watched the spot where his old master was committed to his grave. Since then for 14 years he lived on the top of the master’s tomb until he died.  He did not leave the site even in rain, except only an hour at a time to visit his two friends.  One of them was the restaurateur who fed him.  And the other was the sexton who built a shelter for him at the cemetery.  But most of his time he was beside his master’s grave.  He was waiting for the master to return.  I think that he really wanted to see the master again. 

わたしの父は39年前に山仕事の事故で亡くなりました。39年も経つと父の記憶が少しずつ薄れてきているのが分かります。あの頃はわたしがまだ小学5年生でした。父の顔ははっきりと覚えていますが、もう今はどんな声だったのかを忘れかけています。それだけに早く父に会いたいという気持ちがあります。いろんなことを話してみたいです。皆さんも、先に眠りについてしまった愛する人たちと、早く会いたいという気持ちを強く持っておられませんか。

My father was killed in an accident in the mountain when he was working 39 years ago.  Over a period time I feel that the memory of my father is becoming poorer.  I was only in the 5^th grade at the time.  I do remember his face, but am forgetting the tone of his voice.  Because of this I’d really like to see him again as soon as I can.  And I want to talk with him about many things.  Don’t you also want to see your loved ones who’ve passed away again soon?   

神は聖書を通して死んで眠っている人たちとの再会を約束しています。それはキリストの再臨のときに実現します。

God has promised through the Bible that we shall see again the ones who passed away.  It will happen at the second coming of Christ.

テサロニケ第一4:13 兄弟たちよ。眠っている人々については、無知でいてもらいたくない。望みを持たない外の人々のように、あなたがたが悲しむことのないためである。

4:14 わたしたちが信じているように、イエスが死んで復活されたからには、同様に神はイエスにあって眠っている人々をも、イエスと一緒に導き出して下さるであろう。

1Thessalonians4:13 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.

4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

キリストがご再臨されるとき、イエスにあって眠っている人たちがよみがえります。それは十字架にかけられたキリストが復活されたからです。キリストが復活されたように、わたしたちも復活するのです。キリストが復活されて天に帰られたように、わたしたちもいずれは死んで復活して、天の故郷に上げられ、天国がわたしたちの住処になるのです。その意味でキリストの復活はわたしたちの救いの保証です。復活祭は宗教的な祭として礼拝する聖書的な根拠は何もありません。しかしこの季節にもう一度キリストの再臨信仰をみ言葉の中から確認するようにいたしましょう。

God will raise those who sleep in Jesus when He returns.  It is possible because Christ was crucified and was raised from the dead.  Just as Christ was raised from the dead, we will also be raised.  Just as Christ returned to His heavenly homeland, we will taste out death, receive our resurrection and be taken up to the heaven, our homeland.  So Christ’s resurrection is the foundation of our salvation.  Easter has no biblical base for worshipping the Lord as a religious festival.  But let us reconfirm our faith in Christ’s second coming through scripture. 

ふたりのかわいい兄弟が聖書を勉強したくて教会に来ました。先生がふたりの兄弟の生年月日を尋ねますと、1人がこう言いました。「わたしたちは2人とも7歳です。わたしの誕生日は1976年4月8日で、弟の誕生日は1976年4月20日です。」すると、先生は「そんなのこと、ありうるはずがないわ」と言いました。もう一人の兄弟が言いました。「いいえ、先生、どっちかが養子になったから、この誕生日で正しいのです。」先生は「どっちなの」と聞きました。すると子供たちはお互いに向き合ってニッコリしました。そしてお兄さんのほうが言いました。「お父さんに聞いてみたことがあります。するとお父さんはこう言ったのです。『お前たちをふたりとも愛しているので、どっちが養子になったのか覚えてないよ。』」

Two little brothers came to a church to study the Bible.  The teacher asked for their birthdays, and the bolder of the two said, “We are both 7.  My birthday is April 8, 1976, and my brother’s April 20, 1976.”  Then she said, “That’s impossible.”  The other boy said, ”No, it’s not.  One of us is adopted.”  The teacher asked, “Which one?”  The two boys looked at each other and smiled.  And The first boy said, “We asked Dad awhile ago, but he said he loved us both, and just couldn’t remember which one was adopted.” 

神はわたしたちを愛してくださっています。わたしたちを神の家族に養子として迎え入れてくださいました。これは神のお約束です。キリストがおいでになるとき、キリストを信じて眠っている人たちはよみがえり、天の家族のもとに引き上げられます。生きて再臨を迎える者たちも、同じところに導かれます。これは確かなお約束です。信じて主の来臨の日を待ち望みましょう。

God loves us all.  He has adopted us into His family.  This is His promise.  When Christ comes back, He will raise those who are asleep in Jesus, to take them to their heavenly family.  He will also take those who remain alive until the coming of the Lord to His heavenly family as well.  It is His divine promise.  Let us wait with anticipation in faith for the glorious day of His coming.
